One Thousand and One Nights is a celebrated work from his renowned cut-out period, created in his room overlooking the Bay of Angels in Nice. his piece reflects the freedom and energy of his late artistic phase, utilizing vibrant compositions crafted from gouache-painted paper cut-outs. In 1994, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Matisse's passing, Nouvelles Images in Paris published a limited edition 15-color silkscreen print of this masterpiece, with the approval of Matisse's heirs. The serigraph was printed on Arches vellum 100% rag paper (250g), with 250 unnumbered serigraphs on heavy textured linen paper. The vivid, organic shapes, abstract stars, and flowing lines closely resemble the original cut-outs, evoking the imaginative spirit of the tales from "One Thousand and One Nights." Its bold, dynamic design celebrates Matisse’s mastery of storytelling through abstract art. Signed in plate - lower right.
